Motorcoach Council: New Member

ACR Coach will soon be joining The Motorcoach Council.

According to the Council’s Web site, it is “a philanthropic, not-for-profit, public interest organization dedicated to educating potential riders about the availability, selection, and benefits of motorcoach transportation across North America.”

The Council is a public service, community-centric solution to many of the challenges we face as a nation. Without burdening the taxpayer, we can take cars off the road, provide everyday solutions to surface congestion on our highways, reduce emissions more than any other mode of transportation and reduce the greenhouse effect on our planet, as well as the carbon footprint of its inhabitants.

Going Green: Cleaner Coaches

At the end of 2009, ACR Coach submitted an application through Community Transportation, Inc. to the National Clean Diesel Funding Assistance Program.

This campaign, run under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), hopes to achieve the following goals:

reducing diesel emissions
maximizing job preservation
creating and promoting economic recovery through a variety of diesel emission reduction strategies

Grant funds will assist with the replacement of two existing ACR Coach motorcoach vehicles. This project will allow ACR Coach to reduce emissions by 60 percent through improving engine and idle efficiencies on approximately 400,000 miles annually.

ACR Express: New Service

ACR Coach recently submitted a 5311(f) grant application to fund ACR Express. The long-term goal of ACR Express is not only to use 5311(f) funding in the short term, but to create a sustainable intercity transport system that aligns with both state and national goals.

An informal assessment of the demographics of the proposed cities and counties to be served and a review of the Intercity Bus Service Study 2007 conducted by the University of Alabama, along with industry knowledge from many years of serving clients in the state of Alabama, revealed the following which formed the basis for ACR Coach’s proposed service route.

The feeder route proposed is not currently served by any of the three intercity bus providers in the state. Greyhound previously serviced the Birmingham route but operations has ceased due to financial constraints.
Reform has not had bus service since 1995.
Gordo and Northport have never been on an intercity bus route.

The proposed service not only does not compete with or duplicate existing intercity service, it provides a new service and will complement the existing Birmingham and Tuscaloosa intercity service by providing additional linkages to other cities and towns.

ACR Coach receives United Motorcoach Association Vision Award

In 2007, the United Motorcoach Association awarded its Vision Award to ACR Coach. This annual award recognizes companies that embody a vision to lead the bus industry into the future and to raise the standards for operators everywhere.

The United Motorcoach Association is North America’s largest association of professional bus and motorcoach companies.
